Dictionary content

The word definitions and related dictionary text in Vocabulary come from Wiktionary, the free dictionary written by Wiktionary contributors. This includes definitions, examples, pronunciations, word origins and related words. We thank everyone who has written and improved those entries.

Wiktionary text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0). The full licence text explains your rights and the conditions. Wiktionary's own Copyrights page says more about how entries are licensed and notes that some entries can include material with different terms.

Some of the related words, the synonyms and opposites shown on a word's page, come from Open English WordNet (2024 edition), made by the Open English WordNet contributors. It is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), and we chose and checked the words we use from it.

Changes we made

Changes were made to the original material. We selected entries, shortened and edited them, and wrote new examples so they suit a learning app.

Sharing our changes

The adapted dictionary text in Vocabulary is shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. The licence applies to that text only. It does not cover the rest of the app, such as its design, software and artwork.
