Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Vocabulary has no account to create or sign in to. iCloud (iPhone and iPad) or Android backup may use the account you already have on your device, but that is your device account, not a Vocabulary account.
Where is my data stored?
Your saved words, lists, practice history and settings are stored on your device. Depending on your device settings, iCloud sync or Android backup can keep a copy in your own iCloud or Google account so you can restore it later. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What happens on a new device?
If iCloud sync (iPhone and iPad) or Android backup was on for your old device, your learning data can come back when you set up the new one. This depends on your device and account settings, which are managed by Apple or Google. Without a sync or backup copy, the app starts fresh.
Does it work offline?
Yes, for most things. The dictionary is built into the app. Illustrations and pronunciation audio are downloaded when you need them, or just before, so ones you have not opened before need a connection. Recent ones and those for your saved words are kept on your device, so many work offline.
Does speaking practice record me?
Speaking practice listens only after you start it and allow microphone access (and, on iPhone and iPad, speech recognition). Recognition happens on your device, and the app does not save recordings. It needs a device that supports on-device recognition. You can turn access off in your device settings.
How do reminders work?
Reminders are notifications scheduled on your device. You choose them in the app, and you need to allow notifications. You can change or stop them any time, in the app or in your device settings.
How do I report a wrong or confusing word?
Open the word and use the report option. The report is saved on your device only and is not sent to us. If you want us to see it, please email us with the word and what looks wrong.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes the learning data stored on your device. If iCloud sync or Android backup was on, copies may remain in your iCloud or Google account, and you manage those in your device settings.
Does "Help improve the app" send anything?
No. Your choice is saved on your device, and today the app does not send usage or crash information anywhere. If that changes, we will update the Privacy Policy first.
Is there a paid plan?
No. There are no prices or subscriptions today. If that changes, we will explain it clearly before anything applies to you.
